 About  David Okerlund 

What can one say about a person who states that the best job he ever had was when he worked on a garbage route for four years in order to save up money to go to college? As David tells his audiences, “That’s when I learned one of the greatest lessons in life—it’s not what I’m doing in life that gives me my dignity. It’s the attitude I bring to what I’m doing, and I can have just as much self-esteem working on a John Deere 4020, as some executive sitting behind a five-thousand-dollar mahogany desk—if I wake up with the right attitude about what I’m going to do that day.”

Over the last twenty years, David has worked with some of the greatest companies and organizations in America and abroad. He has presented numerous seminars and keynote addresses on topics like change management, leadership skills, creativity, and sales and customer service He has helped design communication and persuasion classes for university students and has been described by baseball Hall of Fame shortstop Ozzie Smith and others as the “best personal speech coach in the United States.”

In 1998, David founded the Creative Communications Institute, an organization dedicated to assisting individuals and corporations with their communication needs. He continues to work with corporate executives, political figures, and celebrity athletes to improve their speaking skills.

David has presented over 2,000 speeches to over one million people all over the globe from Anchorage, Alaska to Cairo, Egypt. He has spoken to audiences as small as fourteen people to national conventions of over 25,000. David is a member of the International Hall of Fame for Speakers and has taught speech and debate at Oxford University in England, designed classes in Persuasion and Ethics for university graduate students, and teaches a national executive leadership course at Cornell University in New York each fall.

David has written five books including most recently, Managing the Margins of Greatness, and I Like the Depression. His newest book, Gathering Pebbles is scheduled to come out in March of this year.  He also founded The Creative Communications Institute, an organization dedicated to assisting individuals and corporations with their communication needs.

Ad Design: The Technical and Theory behind good ads

Kevin Slimp has done it all in his “short” lifetime. From CEO of an ad agency in his late 20s to newspaper publisher/owner to best-selling author, university faculty member, and ceo/publisher of Market Square Books, Kevin has made his mark in just about every area of the publishing world.

If there’s anyone who knows the “hows” and “whys” of ad design, it’s Kevin Slimp. During this session, Kevin is going to share some of the psychology of what makes good ads and the “hands on” skills to create better ads.

Kevin is very selective about the conferences he speaks at these days, and tells us that MFCP remains his favorite. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from “the guru” himself as he discusses what we can do to create better ads for our clients.

Production Grad School: More Tools to Increase  Productivity at Your Paper

As long-time director of the Newspaper Institute at the University of Tennessee, who better to lead a “grad school” for newspaper production staffs at MFCP? Kevin always comes up with new skills and tips to increase production at papers, and this year will be no exception.

Attendees will spend time learning advanced skills in Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat and more.

Time will fly by and attendees will leave with new skills to increase productivity when they return to the office.
